Headed to Marrakech, Morocco? Then this list is for you! We dug up 5 great vegan-friendly restaurants in Marrakech with food that’ll light your tastebuds on fire.
Marrakech, Morocco is a vegan paradise! Vegan options abound in the North African capital, where you’ll find tagines, couscous, fresh bread, soups, a cornucopia of salads, and so much more. So let’s get into it!
🌱 LE JARDIN RESTAURANT
- Location: Marrakech Medina
- Address: 32 Souk Jeld Sidi Abdelaziz, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco
- Hours: Monday – Sunday 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Notes: Not fully vegan, but offers a number of vegan dishes. Has a small fresh vegetable shop on the patio level where organic produce is sold.
Le Jardin (which translates to “The Garden” in French) is situated in a stylish, open-air 16th century building. The central courtyard and salons are tiled in jade green. Lined with banana trees that provide shade to the tables below, Le Jardin is a lush oasis perfect for escaping the sweltering afternoon heat. The menu offers a mix of Moroccan dishes and bistro fare.
Le Jardin was one of our favorite restaurants in Marrakech. We had the roasted carrot salad (we asked for the cheese to be removed) and vegetable couscous. Both were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The caramelized onions on top of the couscous was a nice touch that added rich sweetness.
🌱 NOMAD
- Location: Marrakech Medina
- Address: 1 Derb Aarjane, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco
- Hours: Monday – Sunday 12:00am to 11:00pm
- Notes: Not fully vegan, but offers a number of vegan dishes. Do make reservations in advance, as tables fill up fast.
Chic and trendy, Nomad boasts a stunning view of the old city’s minarets and Spice Square from its twin rooftop terraces. The menu incorporates traditional local Moroccan dishes as well as international dishes with a modern Moroccan twist. Seasonal produce is sourced locally and all ingredients are washed in filtered water.
We ordered the roasted chermoula and harissa cauliflower, Moroccan gaspacho, and shaved cauliflower salad with herbs, toasted almonds and caramelized onions. Compared to all the excited talk we heard about Nomad, we found their vegan offerings a bit lackluster. For example, the flavors of the chermoula and harissa—which are bold—failed to come through. However, the ingredients were high quality and the food was light and nutritious.
🌱RIAD DAR ZAMAN
- Location: Marrakech Medina
- Address: 1708 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10031
- Hours: Monday – Sunday 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM
- Notes: Not fully vegan, but offers a number of vegan dishes.
We had a wonderful stay at this four-bedroom riad situated near the souks—on a quiet street tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the medina. The grounds are elegant and the vibe tranquil and intimate. Thanks to Chef Karima, the meals at Riad Dar Zaman’s were our favorite Marrakech by far. We could not get enough of her vegetable tagine, Moroccan salads, fresh bread, and vibrant breakfast spread. The depth of flavor in her tagine and the freshness and brightness of her Moroccan salads and bread were unmatched.
Chef Karima thoughtfully crafted her menu to include flavor-packed, protein rich, well rounded vegan options that are prepared to order. She quite literally shops for fresh produce and ingredients as orders are placed. We’ve traveled to 34 countries—and hand to God—her dishes rank among our top favorite eats around the globe!
And did we mention that the breakfasts are complimentary with your stay at Riad Dar Zaman? Not only is the breakfast a colorful feast for the eyes, it is nutrient and protein rich! You’ll also get to sample a range of local Moroccan breakfast favorites.
Included in the breakfast: Roasted beetroot hummus | Olive tapenade | Avocado topped with sesame seeds | Almond butter with jam | Moroccan bread (khobz) Moroccan semolina pancakes (beghrir) | Freshly squeezed orange juice | Coffee/tea. The staff was also kind enough to prepare taktouka (Moroccan tomato-and-bell pepper dish) for us!
🗒️ RESERVATIONS
Even if you’re staying at another riad or lodging, you can make reservations to dine at Riad Dar Zaman 24 hours in advance, as all meals are made to order. Breakfast is only 100 dirhams ($10) per person! As for lunch and dinner, vegan options are clearly labeled on the menu.
[We also took a cooking class, available at the riad, with Chef Karima, where we learned how to make 7 Moroccan dishes! Stay tuned for a blog review of our experience.]
🌱CAFÉ DES ÉPICES
- Location: Marrakech Medina
- Address: 1708 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10031
- Hours: Monday – Sunday 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM
- Notes: Not fully vegan, but offers a number of vegan dishes.
Settled snugly into the corner of the old spice market in the middle of the Marrakech souks, Café Des Épices is simply charming with its burnt sienna walls, woven stools, and rustic tables. This popular eatery recently expanded into the neighboring property, spanning three levels, and overlooking the Spice Square. In keeping with its name, the café offers spiced teas and coffees, along with a range of freshly squeezed fruit juices, smoothies, and light snacks, salads, and sandwiches.
We loved dropping by Café Des Épices to quench our thirst in the heat. The service was fast and friendly and the prices reasonable. Their fresh bread (khobz) was a delicious edible vessel to sop up their sumptuous vegetable tagine.
🌱KUI-ZIN
- Location: Marrakech Medina
- Address: 1708 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10031
- Hours: Monday – Sunday 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM
- Notes: Not fully vegan, but offers a number of vegan dishes. We recommend sitting on the terrace, so you can enjoy the live traditional music when it’s available.
Last but not least, Kui-Zin is a lovely restaurant that we went to on our last day in Marrakech. Its rooftop terrace with live traditional music was a dream! We regretted not dining there sooner in our trip to enjoy the ambiance. Kui-Zin’s menu includes Moroccan staples along with some European offerings. Also, they bake their bread in house!
We ordered two bowls of harira soup (Moroccan lentil & chickpea soup) and vegetable briouats (think Indian samosas but stuffed with vegetables). The harira soup was wonderfully savory and the briouats crisp.
